How Do I Get a Library Card?
If you live or work in Columbus County, you can apply for a FREE library card at any of the Columbus County Library Branches. You will need proof of identity and current address.
Acceptable forms of proof of address include:
Non- residents who work in Columbus County must provide proof of Columbus County employment (I.D. Badge or Pay Stub).
Youth library cards will be issued for children between the ages of 5 and 17. Applications for youth cards must be completed by a parent or legal guardian who will be legally and financially responsible for any and all materials checked out on the youth card. Parents or legal guardians applying for youth cards must have a valid library card with no outstanding fees before youth cards will be issued.
Patron library cards are updated yearly. Cardholder cannot have outstanding charges on library card in order to maintain use.
How many items can I check out at a time?
Up to 21 books may be checked out per library card. Limits for specific formats are:
Do I have to return items to the library where I checked them out?
You may return items to any Columbus County Library location. When a library is closed, materials may be put in after-hours book returns.
I have forgotten my PIN. How can I reset it?
Library staff can clear your PIN so you can set a new one, but they cannot see your PIN.
How do I change the address on my library account?
Address changes can be made by visiting your local Columbus County Public Library branch.
Please bring your card and a current picture ID with name and current address or a current picture ID and a piece of recently received mail with your name and current address.
Why am I getting the message "there is a problem with your account" when I try to log in?
The most likely situation is that your library card's registration has expired. Library card registrations are good for 1 year.
Contact the library to get your card re-registered.
How do I access databases and other online resources from home?
If you are not at the library, you can access most of the library's online resources by visiting our library website and clicking on the resource you would like to use. You may be prompted to use your library card number, and PIN for access to some of the information:

Using Interlibrary Loan Services, you can borrow items from almost any library in North Carolina.
